Email Aliases
Monday, 10 April 2023 02:35 amSomeone mentioned Privacy Guides in a Tumblr post, so I casually skimmed through some of it, and Email Aliasing Services caught my eye.
I'm sure this is something a little more serious for some people, but my first thought was 'I don't have to worry about giving out my ridiculous, made in middle school email' for certain things anymore.
I have more than enough emails that I don't always have to give out that one, to be clear. However, sometimes I do want to keep certain subscriptions or sign-ups going to one inbox without actually having to provide said ridiculous email.
I'm trying out ao3@briarfenrirsbur.anonaddy.com for anyone reaching out to my AO3.
So far, testing with a second email I have, an email to that address will forward through (though first time use should check the Spam folder). I can also reply from my ridiculous!inbox and have it arrive as sent from the AnonAddy address.

Date: Saturday, 5 October 2024 01:40 pm (UTC)I should look into aliases, as someone who also has some ridiculous old addresses (in my defence, I was like 8 lol, and it wasn't meant to be an email address anyway (Google gave me one when it bought YouTube)), and the alternative is making a new account (bleh) or using my real-name address lol.

Date: Saturday, 5 October 2024 05:33 pm (UTC)I liked the idea of using an alias for some newsletters, but I keep running into issues with the forwarded from address being flagged as spam even after whitelisting it for one. I'm not sure if I need to redirect those emails for a certain folder or what, but this particular email addressing service has been a little underwhelming. I've heard that it might be because it's third-party? I'm not really sure, but I think Proton offers aliases for those who use Proton Pass.
