ACG&S (Season 1 Could Be Queerer)

queer_scribblingJust some non-serious "could be queerer" thoughts.
Episode 1: James doesn't get terribly drunk with the locals, but he could've still panicked about accidentally letting something slip, bad attempts at flirting, or something. If you don't mind age differences, you could probably work out a Siegfried Farnon/James Harriot angle for 'making up' for James' mistake.
Episode 2: Once you get over the brief attempt at rivalry, you could probably make a go for Tristan Farnon/James Harriot. James is in his old room, and he's in a smaller side room (dialogue was, "In the cupboard?" It might be closet, if you can fit a bed in one). To make a point that Tristan's sleeping in, it often seems like they don't close the door to where he's sleeping. (I'm sure someone can get some sort of hijinks out of that.)
I'm not quite sure yet if the pre-party conversation between Mrs Hall and Siegfried is supposed to definitively point to something about their matter of relating to each other changing. (I'm not sure if Mrs Hall is supposed to be married to someone who works elsewhere or has died, or what's going on with her.) I have a threadbare justification for an aro of some sort!Siegfried headcanon.
And some readers may not be surprised at this because canon's got some sort of unrequited crush slash possible love triangle thing going on: What if Hugh wasn't a rival for Helen? James could have himself some bi pining and/or he could be fine with non-monogamy, and we could still have some 'what would the locals think' drama if it's necessary.
Episode 3: Tristan's interested in Maggie, but given his partying reputation, I can see some sort of allo-aro!Tristan headcanon being possible.
James has supplied the Hurt, and we've got possibilities for the Comfort, if that's your sort of thing. You'd have to be alright with age differences for Siegfried or Mrs Hall. James does go to the pub, so Tristan's an option. If you like angry/rough make up scenarios, you could even go for Hugh after Adante's been put down.
Episode 4: Still not entirely sure how much time has passed between 3 and 4. Hugh's not as upset about Andante, so there could be a less angry/rough take on Hugh/James, I guess. Hugh does some sort of flirtatious something or other with Helen just off to the side of James fixing the care's tire, and with OT3 goggles on, there's no saying he has to be solely pining after Helen.
I'm not sure what all was in the hamper of food, but I presume there's fuel for anyone looking for a food based scenario. Or some sort of reward scenario for Tristan for putting in all the work with Tricki Woo? I suppose you could also create an OC for Tristan to maybe want to return to at university, but there's room for ~tutoring~ scenarios with Tristan not going back.
Episode 5: We don't need to set up an either or situation for Mrs Hall liking Siegfried and Siegfried liking Dorothy. You know that 'Character has two hands' meme? Siegfried has two hands.
Granted, some people might just want to poke around at Dorothy/Audrey. (I finally realised Audrey is Mrs Hall's first name.)
Episode 6: When Tristan brings up James needing someone to go to the birthday party with, James jokingly says, "You're not my type." I imagine someone could easily springboard off this with a Tristan/James scenario.
I suppose anyone with an eye towards Hugh/James could have some angst fuel with the surprise proposal. For anyone wearing OT3 goggles, there might be a slightly more positive spin on Hugh proposing to Helen on James' birthday.
Episode 7: There's a moment where Maggie, who's still a bit miffed with Tristan, points out that he's under the mistletoe with James (not her). It's supposed to be a funny moment since Tristan's bought all of the mistletoe at the farmer's market to put up at the Christmas Eve party to presumably increase his odds of being able to kiss her. (Someone's already written a fic where James and Tristan do kiss under the mistletoe.)

Date: Saturday, 30 December 2023 07:58 pm (UTC)I can easily imagine that someone out there is probably working out Siegfried/Tristan possibilities, but I didn't want to squick anyone out with that. Since the original book series was loosely autobiographical, I'm mostly getting search results about who inspired which character when trying to look up anything about these characters.
