I get that Go Flip Yourself is supposed to be a parody of The Property Brothers and more or less poke fun at a generic HGTV renovation show that wants to make everything white, knock down walls to give the house an open floor plan, and add in windows for natural light.
However, the plot twist to make Go Flip Yourself useless, leave actual structural problems unresolved, and simply have Simon The Devious steal Laszlo's witch hat was a bit disappointing. It was clearly just supposed to be a funny ending or whatever, but I kind of wanted some sort of progression from "here's the lavish plan" to "Oh no, we have to re-evaluate our budget" to "best we can do is fix it up to what it was before".
Getting rid of Nadja's solid gold toilet was a hint of that, but personally not enough. I wanted something a bit like what I've seen on Love It Or List It with my mom - we were given a budget that could only fix up the kitchen so something needs to be a compromise, I can't redo the bathroom but I can give you more storage in the living room, foreman says that he absolutely must get the electrical up to code, a surprise foundation repair, etc. Like, there was a hole in the front entrance leading to the flooded basement in episode 1 and this episode revealed a tree that fell into the side of the house leaving a hole. (There's enough there to dial back reno plans.)
I'm very tempted to draft a Fix It fic that also brings in someone from the historical society. (They're certainly not maliciously against repairs, but that could put a real damper on planning to modernise the floor plan or remove certain design elements.)
